Magpie Kiosk is a casual cafe tucked just outside Mdina’s back gate, making it a convenient stop for anyone wandering in or out of the ancient city walls. It’s the kind of place where locals clearly feel comfortable grabbing breakfast, coffee, or a midday bite, which is often a good sign of authenticity in a tourist-heavy area.

The atmosphere here leans into old-style Maltese hospitality—unpretentious and welcoming, with a relaxed, no-frills vibe that suits both quick coffee runs and leisurely lunches. Visitors often find themselves drawn to the outdoor seating that captures a slice of Mdina’s quieter moments away from the main streets, providing a calm spot to pause and watch the world go by.

Food offerings mirror this approachable style: sandwiches like the Jambon Fromage or versions with egg and cheese provide simple but well-sized portions that resonate with both locals and visitors wanting decent value. Larger plates, such as mixed grills, come through as surprisingly generous and affordable, making it a good option for those looking to balance quality and budget near one of Malta’s key heritage sites.

Service here is noted for being friendly and attentive without being overbearing, reflecting the owners' hands-on approach and genuine care. For anyone planning to visit, early morning or early afternoon visits tend to capture the best blend of fresh food and a quieter setting—avoiding the short tourist rush you might catch later in the day.

Overall, Magpie Kiosk fits naturally into the Mdina neighborhood—offering fresh, straightforward fare and a chance to enjoy a coffee or meal the way locals do, outside the main hustle but within reach of Malta’s “Silent City.” It’s especially suited for travellers who want a casual spot with good portions and a sense of everyday Maltese eating culture rather than something slick or polished for tourists.

Saw locals eating here which in my book is always a good sign. I wasn't disappointed the service was good and the food was delicious. Not overly expensive either considering it's at a tourist attraction. Well done keep up the good work

Been for a coffee the past few years however this time we had time for lunch. Outstanding value ,freshly prepared and lovely owners. 2 large plates of perfectly prepared sausage, egg, chips, salad and tuna roll, chips and salad with 2 cappuccinos for just over 13 euros . Old style malta hospitality and style sadly becoming a rarity in 2025. Highly recommended.

Came here on Sunday (28th April) late morning for food before starting my adventure in Mdina old city and was served by a young girl and her father or grandfather (not too sure as I didn't get their names so can only describe) I had a burger, chips and salad and it was the best I have ever tasted They served me with a smile, friendly, were very polite and I could see that they were hard working people who care about good customer service it was busy but people were not waiting long They have extremely reasonable prices, lots of seats to sit down on if you choose to stay and eat next to the kiosk if you want to take food to go you can and there are many other benches stones to sit on nearby too Bins are provided so don't forget to clean up after yourself and leave the place as you find it when you visit I would definitely recommend it was a pleasant stop to get something tasty to eat before exploring in the area Many thanks for your great food and kind hospitality, a lovely start to my holiday
